ANDERSON — The Anderson City Council is scheduled to consider a $225,000 settlement with Anderson Hospitality, Inc. to resolve the city’s claim for unpaid transient occupancy tax tied to the Best Western Anderson Inn, according to the March 17 agenda packet.
The staff report says the city has pursued the matter since 2023 after the hotel allegedly stopped remitting transient occupancy tax in 2022. City staff wrote that they reviewed profit-and-loss statements from 2022 forward and calculated $307,463.11 owed, while liens tied to the property totaled $443,209.22.
Under the proposed settlement, Anderson Hospitality would pay $225,000, the city would remove the liens after payment, and the company would be required to stay current on future transient occupancy tax obligations, according to the packet. The report says the deal would also avoid additional litigation costs.
The settlement is one of several fiscal and policy items on the March 17 agenda. The council is also set to hear other routine and planned business, including a proposed summer swim-program contract with the Shasta Family YMCA, a public hearing on sign-code changes, and a closed session on labor negotiations and anticipated litigation.
The agenda packet alone does not show whether the council approved the settlement at the meeting.
