The Humboldt County Association of Governments board accepted Executive Director Brendan Byrd’s resignation during a closed session at its April 30 special meeting, then moved quickly to line up an interim leadership plan and recruitment support.

According to the approved meeting record, the board accepted Byrd’s resignation, directed him to select an interim executive director and bring back a contract at the next meeting, and named Chair Mike Johnson and Vice-Chair Kim Bergel to the hiring committee. The board also directed Byrd to work with Tripepi, Smith and Associates for recruitment outreach support, with the executive director and hiring committee handling resume evaluations and interviews.

The meeting record does not say when Byrd’s resignation takes effect, whether he will remain in place until an interim contract is approved, or why he is leaving.

The same special meeting also approved a number of transportation items, including a written determination denying the City of Eureka’s Cycle 7 RHNA appeal and resolutions tied to funding and patrol agreements. The agenda for the meeting had flagged the closed-session personnel item and the board later made a public announcement of the action taken in closed session.
