The Shasta Lake City Council is scheduled Sept. 1 to take up second-reading approval of a sweeping rewrite of the city’s zoning code, a package that would repeal and replace Title 17, update the citywide zoning map and amend General Plan land-use diagrams.
According to the council’s Sept. 1 agenda packet, staff says the overhaul is intended to align local land-use rules with the city’s 2040 General Plan and state housing obligations. The materials also say the ordinance would replace the interim zoning ordinance, and they cite a CEQA addendum prepared for the update.
The agenda packet indicates the package still could be refined after review by outside agencies, including the California Department of Housing and Community Development, the Board of Forestry and the Department of Conservation. The packet does not identify any specific comments those agencies may submit before the council’s vote.
The zoning item follows first-reading approval Aug. 18, when the council advanced the ordinance update on a related agenda. The Sept. 1 packet also notes related planning documents, including the city’s 2040 General Plan and the planning commission’s recommendation for approval.
If adopted, the rewrite would reset the city’s zoning framework citywide and could shape future housing, mixed-use and other development approvals.
