The State Water Resources Control Board unanimously approved a resolution this week amending the Water Quality Control Plan for the Colorado River Basin Region to establish total maximum daily loads, or TMDLs, and an implementation plan for pyrethroid pesticides in the Alamo River and New River in Imperial County.

According to the board’s May 19-20 meeting minutes, Board Member Laurel Firestone moved adoption of Resolution No. 2026-0017 and Board Member Nichole Morgan seconded it. The minutes show the motion carried unanimously, with Chair E. Joaquin Esquivel, Vice Chair Dorene D’Adamo, and Members Sean Maguire, Laurel Firestone and Nichole Morgan all voting aye.

The resolution is a concrete regulatory step that could shape cleanup obligations and water-quality compliance in the Colorado River Basin, though the minutes do not include the full text of the amendment, the implementation timeline, or details on affected dischargers or costs.

The same meeting also included other informational items and workshops, but the board took no action on those matters.
