The California Assembly gave final passage Monday to AB 1795, a wildfire-recovery bill that would create statewide standards for inspecting, testing and remediating smoke-damaged homes.
Assemblymember Gibson presented the measure, known as the Smoke Damage Recovery Act, during a floor session in Sacramento. According to the Assembly floor record, the bill passed on urgency and on the merits by a 54-6 vote.
During debate, supporters said the measure would give homeowners clearer rules and better protections after wildfires, while also helping address insurance and post-fire recovery problems. Opponents warned about cost and scope concerns, saying the bill could go too far in its current form.
The floor session record does not include the bill’s final text or any amendments adopted Monday, and it does not specify the measure’s next committee stop or Senate path after Assembly passage. The Assembly floor audio is available here.
