The Fortuna City Council took formal action May 4 to move a proposed 0.75-cent transactions and use tax onto the ballot for the Nov. 3, 2026 general municipal election.
According to the council’s May 4 regular meeting agenda packet and meeting minutes, council members introduced Ordinance 2026-785 on first reading to authorize the tax and adopted Resolution 2026-12 to order the measure submitted to voters.
The resolution also directs election-related follow-up steps, including requesting an impartial analysis, setting ballot-argument dates and asking the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors to consolidate the election.
Meeting records identify the proposed levy as a 0.75-cent transactions and use tax. The available materials do not spell out the measure’s spending plan or revenue projections.
The council also addressed other items at the May 4 meeting, including a business district assessment and a transit designation, before adjourning at 7:02 p.m.
