An Assembly Elections Committee hearing on Aug. 5 drew broad support for AB 1923, a Fresno County transportation measure, from city officials, labor representatives and residents, according to a transcript of the proceedings.
Mayors from Kerman, Mendota, Orange Cove and Huron all testified in favor of the bill, along with other supporters who said the measure would help preserve transportation funding, protect mobility for working families and improve access for rural residents. One speaker said the Fresno City Council had unanimously backed the transportation initiative, while another cited 32,000 petition signatures in support.
The hearing also included opposition from Emma Jungworth, speaking for the California State Association of Counties, who said the group had concerns about local control and about overriding the Fresno County board’s vote.
