A break-in at a property leased by transit near the Yuba County airport caused approximately $750,000 in damage, Yuba City Councilmember Wade Kirchner reported during the council’s Oct. 20 meeting.

Kirchner said the property is being used to stage part of transit operations before construction on North Beale Road. He said the break-in occurred “last month” and caused roughly three-quarters of a million dollars in damage, while thieves took what he estimated was a couple hundred dollars’ worth of copper. The report is contained in the Yuba City Council meeting video.

Kirchner also said insurance had been obtained, but the council discussion did not specify whether coverage will pay for the damage, how repairs will be funded or who owns the staging property. The meeting did not include a police report, an incident number or information about arrests or charges.

In the same report, Kirchner said the Lincoln-Roseville transit route had officially launched. He did not describe any effect from the property damage on transit service.

The council member’s account leaves the damage estimate and the circumstances of the break-in subject to confirmation from Yuba-Sutter Transit, the property owner or law enforcement.
