Sutter County supervisors appointed Nicolas Oliver as interim agricultural commissioner effective Sept. 5, according to the county’s summary of proceedings from the Aug. 25 meeting.

The county’s Aug. 25 agenda packet listed the appointment as an appearance item presented by the county administrator. In the meeting record, Assistant County Administrator Laura Granados discussed the item, and Oliver — identified in the minutes as assistant agricultural commissioner/sealer — thanked the board for the opportunity to serve and said he would focus on continuity of service.

The interim appointment comes as the county’s longtime agricultural commissioner/sealer, Lisa Herbert, was congratulated on her retirement during the same meeting. The minutes do not say why the county needed an interim appointment, how long Oliver is expected to serve, or whether a permanent recruitment is underway.

The agricultural commissioner’s office handles regulatory and inspection work, including several agricultural program agreements the board approved the same day.
